EDMONTON – The CIS #10 Alberta Golden Bears are still fighting for first place in the conference standings after a 92-53 victory against the Brandon Bobcats on Friday at Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton. With the loss the Bobcats chances of qualifying for the Canada West playoffs are officially ended, despite a strong showing at home against the Lethbridge Pronghorns last weekend.
For the third-straight game, and 10th on the season, senior guard Daniel Ferguson led the Alberta offence (19 points) while third-year guard Jordan Baker (16) and Matthew Cardoza (12) were among the top socrers.
Sophomore guard Michael Smith had a team-high nine points for Brandon, draining all three shots he let fly from beyond the arc, while rookie guard Ilarion Bonhomme chipped in with eight points.
With the win, Alberta improves to 13-6 with one game left in their regular season, in second place.
The Golden Bears close their season on Saturday with the rematch against Brandon, tip-off going at 8:00 p.m.
