BRANDON, MB - The Brandon Bobcats increased their chances of hosting a first-round playoff series by beating the Alberta Golden Bears 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21) on Friday in Brandon.

The Bobcats currently sit tied for fourth in Canada West standings with one more match to go Saturday night in Brandon.

The Bobcats were led by an impressive performance from Sam Tuivai who finished with 20 kills and nine digs. Ben Glue and Jon Sloane each added 12 kills, while Sloane also picked up three service aces. Garrett Popplestone dazzled for the Bobcats as well, notching 50 set assists, a service ace, and nine digs, and handful of which were highlight reel material.

Taylor Hunt finished with a team-high 19 kills, while Mitch Irvine picked up 15 kills. Matt McCreary picked up nine block assists for the Golden Bears.

The win gives the Bobcats back-to-back wins, improving their record to 11-8, while Alberta falls to 14-5. The teams meet again on Saturday in the final Canada West regular season match for both teams.
