BRANDON, MB – The Brandon Bobcats and UBC-Okanagan Heat battled in a five-set thriller before the Bobcats took it 3-2 (25-17, 25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 17-15), giving them their sixth straight win.

The Bobcats and Heat battled back and forth over the first four sets, before things got really interesting in the fifth and final set. Brandon jumped to an early 7-1 lead in the fifth, seemingly wrapping the contest up. The Heat had a different idea in mind as the clawed back to make it 12-7 before rattling off seven straight points to lead 14-12. Facing match point, the Bobcats ended the contest on a 4-1 run, taking the fifth 17-15.

Fifth-year left-side Jaryn Ruether had one of the biggest matches of her career, finishing with 20 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore Chloe Reimer had a match-high 21 digs to go along with 11 kills. In her second match starting at libero, rookie Shanlee McLennan finished with 16 digs.

Alex Basso and Myrte Schon both finished with 13 kills for the Heat, while Kendra Wayling had a team-high 19 digs and 46 assists.

The win improves the Bobcats record to 8-6, while the Heat fall to 2-10. Up next for Brandon is a road trip to Thompson Rivers University next weekend. UBCO will welcome Alberta next Friday.
