BRANDON, MB – After exchanging leads for the first 38 minutes, the Fraser Valley Cascades came away with a 85-75 win over the Brandon Bobcats thanks to a 9-3 run in the final two minutes. Saturday’s game saw 16 lead changes and the score tied four times.
Kyle Grewal led the charge for the Cascades finishing the contest with 21 points to go with eight rebounds. Jasper Moedt had a strong night, picking up a double-double (15 points, 15 rebounds). Samuel Freeman had 18 points and Joel Freisen added 12 points.
Four Bobcats finished in double-digits. Rookie point guard Ilarion Bonhomme added to his case to be conference rookie of the year finishing with 17 points and nine assists. Ali Mounir Benabdelhak finished one rebound shy of a double-double (15 points, nine rebounds), while Michael Smith put up 15 points and Jordan Reaves picked up 10 points.
The win improves the Cascades record to 9-5 while the loss drops the Bobcats record to 5-9. Next weekend the Bobcats will travel to Saskatoon to play the #5 nationally ranked Saskatchewan Huskies. The Cascades will host Trinity Western Friday and UBC Saturday.
